On 29th October 1875, Princess Marie of Edinburgh, daughter of Prince Alfred and granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was born at Eastwell Park, Kent.
“Walked with Beatrice up to the top of the Glassalt Falls. I rested once or twice & stopped to look at the Falls, which were very full. We had a slight shower. — Received a telegram from Affie, saying that Marie had had a daughter this morning at ½ p. 10 & that both were doing quite well. — After luncheon we drove to the Lime of Muich where we got out & scrambled down the awkward path, to look at the Lime, which was very fine. It rained almost the whole time. — Reading & writing, & playing duets with Beatrice. — Janie E. read a little after dinner. —“
