“A fine morning. — Dear Mary came to wish me goodbye, after breakfast. — Walked down to the Mausoleum with Baby. Then went to Frogmore, where I found Lenchen much better, & preparing to go out when I came in. Got the good news, that dear Alice had a son. We had for quite a time been anxiously expecting the event. — After luncheon drove with Baby & Ly Caledon to New Lodge, where we found Isabelle & Paris. Then were also other people staying in the house. — Ld & Ly Bloomfield, Mr Hardy, Ly Caledon, & Jane Churchill (come on a visit) dined. Mr Hardy interested us by telling us a good deal about Mr Lowe, whom he knew very well indeed, he having been his Tutor at College! —“
