Queen Victoria's journal:
“A very showery morning. — Albert went directly after breakfast to Wellington College, getting back for luncheon. – In the afternoon we walked with the 2 younger girls & Hermann. — The additions to our dinner were M’ Ruland & M’ Ross (the gentleman who is to be Alice’s Treasurer, whom Albert presented to me a day or 2 ago.) The latter is a Scotchman, who has lived for 10 years almost entirely abroad, & who has been recommended by L’ Belhaven. Sat between Hermann & L” Methuen, who is very amiable.”
