Monday 7th January 1901 -

'Had a much better night, but still slept on late. — A very cold day with a very high wind. — Took a short drive in a closed carriage, at 2.30. with Ismay S. — Dictated some letters to Lenchen. — We were delighted to hear from Anna Battenberg, also from Victoria B. & finally, officially, that the young Queen of Italy is at length going to have a child. — Rested. — Ismay S. read to me in the evening out of the new book by Ly Margaret Majendie called "The Mystery of Rougemont". — Lenchen & Beatrice came up to sit with me after their dinner. — Further reports from Ld Kitchener. —'
