On 11th May 1900, Queen Victoria hosted her final Drawing-Room at Buckingham Palace. In her journal she wrote:

“A fine day. — Arthur, Louischen, & their girls breakfasted with us. Georgie & May’s children came in, including the Baby, which is a very fine child. […] Arthur, Louischen, & their girls came to luncheon, Daisy already dressed for her 1rst Drawingroom. She looked very pretty in white & silver. — The Drawingroom began a little after 3, Alix, Lenchen, Louischen, Victoria of Wales, Daisy, Bertie, Arthur, Georgie, & George C. being present. It was a very full Drawingroom. The Dss of Devonshire took poor Ly Salisbury’s place. Several Brides were presented, including Ly Tullygarden, & Lady Castlereagh. Ly Latham was also presented on her change of title. I remained over an hour. — Drove at ½ p. 5 with Thora & Harriet P. Everywhere there were crowds of people, who were just as enthusiastic as when I was in London last. — Had tea on coming in with Beatrice & Thora. — To my great distress I found my dear little “Bully” dead in his cage. I shall Miss him very much, as I had had him 13 years. — The Duke of Argyll’s funeral took place today, there having been a great delay owing to many difficulties. Heard from Ld Kintore, who represented me that all had gone off well & been most impressive. The Duke was buried at Kilmun, the family burial place. — Bertie, Alix, Victoria, Georgie, May Louise & Mc Duff & Arthur & Louischen dined. —“
